The Essence of True Friendship

“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” – Proverbs 18:24 (KJV)

Devotion

Friendship is a precious gift, a bond that adds richness and warmth to our lives. In Proverbs 18:24, we are reminded of the essence of true friendship: “A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

Being a good friend involves more than just receiving; it requires the giving of oneself. It’s about showing kindness, understanding, and loyalty. As we strive to be good friends, let’s remember the depth of friendship we have in Jesus, who is the ultimate friend that sticks closer than a brother.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the gift of friendship, a bond that mirrors Your love and grace. As I seek to be a good friend, help me to show kindness, understanding, and loyalty to those around me. Teach me to be selfless in my friendships, reflecting the love You have poured into my life.

May I be quick to listen, slow to speak, and abounding in compassion. Grant me the wisdom to strengthen the bonds of friendship and the humility to apologize and forgive when needed. Help me to be a friend who reflects Your character, pointing others toward the ultimate friendship found in You.

Lord, thank You for being the friend who sticks closer than a brother. May I draw strength from Your example as I navigate the joys and challenges of friendships. Guide me to be a source of encouragement, support, and love to those You place in my life.

In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Amen.
